John Wainwright

John Wainwright is an experienced dual purpose racehorse trainer. He first started training at the age of 28 and has trained over 200 winners, His best horse was Vita Spericolata a group and 5 times listed winner. Other prolific winners include Beyond the Clouds, Tommy Smith, Catch the Cat and more recently Lock Jipp.

Along with wife and assistant trainer Fiona, John trains is always working to provide a happy environment for the horses and to be welcoming for all owners when visiting the yard. Both John and Fiona are happy to talk racing and horses. Having kept their operation to a smaller size, it enables them to give personal attention to horses and owners alike. John has enjoyed success at a very high level in the sport counting several winners at group level amongst his achievements.

Henry Daly

Henry has been training racehorses at Downton Hall stables since 1998. Henry is a horseman through and through. After leaving school, he went to work on stud farms in America for 2 years, followed by a stint in Newmarket in the bloodstock and sales side of the industry. Henry did his training apprenticeship with Nick Gaselee and Paul Cole before working as an Assistant to Kim Bailey and then Tim Forster.

In 1994 Henry help Tim Foster move his entire training operation to Downton Hall Stables helping to design and build the yard and the facilities. Since taking over in 1998 Henry has trained over 600 winners, which include 3 winners at the Cheltenham Festival, twice winning the Liverpool Hurdle, a Welsh National and winners of Grade 1 races at Ascot, Cheltenham, Liverpool, Aintree, Wetherby and Kempton.

Gary Moore

Gary Moore is well known in Sussex and that will be for being one of the most successful dual-purpose trainers in the country. In 2007, he started training from Cisswood Racing Stables near Horsham, which is now his main yard. Gary, Jayne, Jamie, Josh & Hayley are a great team to be part of. As of May 2024, Josh Moore joined the license which will be a valuable asset to Gary to continue his success.

Philip Kirby

A qualified farrier by trade, Phil set out training in 2007. In his first year with 4 horses, he became the seasons Leading Hunter Chase Trainer. He has since grown into one of the North’s leading trainers with a fantastic team behind him and some lovely horses past & present that he has had the privilege of training. Holding a dual licence, the yard has enjoyed many listed and graded winners, both on the flat and over jumps.

Chris Gordon

Chris always wanted to work with horses ever since he was a young lad in the Pony Club. He started racing when he was 18 years old when he went to work for John and Anne Farrant. Whilst there he trained his first Point to Point winner. Chris has always had very strong ties with the Point to Pointing world, with himself being a prolific jockey. He was incredibly successful, riding 150 winners and winning South East Area Champion seven times.

Chris has many strings to his bow and is well known within the showing world as well as racing. He has had the honour of judging at horse shows in the UK such as HOYS, Royal International and Royal Windsor. Chris has such a passion and love for racing and his horses.

Suzy Smith

Suzy has built a great reputation for having a high strike rate of winners to runners and is well known for sourcing and developing young horses with winning potential.

Lower Coombe Stables is situated on Angmering Park Estate in West Sussex, one of the most stunning private sporting estates in the country with fantastic training facilities set in beautiful countryside.

Roger Fell

Arthington Barn Stables is located just a few miles from Helmsley on the A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road in the village of Nawton. Set on the border of the North Yorkshire Moors, it is the perfect location to train racehorses. The facilities provide a tranquil setting which gives all our horses the best chance to achieve their potential. The perfect recipe for a successful racing yard!

The yard is a proven success and provides a winning platform which has been demonstrated over many years. Over 600 winners have been sent out from Arthington Barn in recent years.

Harry Whittington

Harry Whittington Racing launched in September 2012, when Harry took out a licence, and began training with just 5 horses.

He made an instant impact in his first season, achieving a strike rate of 20%, with 3 wins from 15 runs. The key day that season, which really put this new yard on the map, was on 2nd March 2013 – when Dubai Kiss (on his racecourse debut) sliced through a competitive junior bumper field at Newbury, to win very impressively at 100/1. Since then the yard has continued to grow, increasing in quality and numbers each year whilst maintaining a consistently high strike-rate. Harry is now focusing solely on pre-training.
